Its utilization is as a solvent in manufacturing of fine chemicals, drugs, drug intermediates and pharmaceuticals, and also in food engineering. It is the solvent of choice for caffeine extraction. It is employed as a solvent and paint remover, and as a blowing agent for polyurethane foams. It is useful for the fraction of flash pyrolysis oil and for the extraction of benzo-15-crown-5.
