Boron trifluoride-tetrahydrofuran complex is used as a polymerization initiator and as a dopant in the semiconductor industry. It serves as a reagent for deoxofluorination of alcohols and carbonyls. Further, it is used in the synthesis of methacrylate-PEG-methacrylate-boron trifluoride self-doped gel polymer electrolytes and hydroboration-oxidation of divinylferrocene. In addition to this, it is used as a reagent for the preparation of NK1 receptor antagonists, complex polyketide natural products and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

Der Bortrifluorid-Tetrahydrofuran-Komplex wird als Polymerisationsinitiator und als Dotant in der Halbleiterindustrie eingesetzt. Er dient als Reagenz für die Deoxofluoridierung von Alkoholen und Carbonylen. Darüber hinaus wird er bei der Synthese von selbstdotierten Gel-Polymerelektrolyten aus Methacrylat-PEG-methacrylat-bortrifluorid und zur Hydroborierung-Oxidation von Divinylferrocen verwendet. Außerdem wird er als Reagenz für die Herstellung von NK1-Rezeptor-Antagonisten, komplexen Polyketid-Naturprodukten und selektiven Serotonin-Wiederaufnahmehemmern verwendet.
