Barium carbonate is widely used in the ceramics industry as an ingredient in glazes. It acts as a flux, a matting and crystallizing agent and combines with certain colouring oxides to produce unique colours not easily attainable by other means. It is also used for removing of sulfates in phosphoric acid production and chlorine alkali electrolysis.

Anwendungen
Bariumcarbonat wird in der Keramikindustrie häufig als Inhaltsstoff in Glasuren verwendet. Es fungiert als Flussmittel, als Mattierungs- und Kristallisationsmittel und erzeugt in Kombination mit bestimmten Farboxiden einzigartige Farben, die auf andere Weise nicht leicht zu erreichen sind. Es wird auch zur Entfernung von Sulfaten in der Phosphorsäureproduktion und Chloralkali-Elektrolyse verwendet.

Löslichkeit
Unlöslich in Wasser und Alkohol. Löslich in Essigsäure, Salzsäure und Salpetersäure.
